TRAIL/WEATHER CONDITIONS

Happy New Year's Eve...

Yesterday turned out to be a pretty nice day. The sun came out for a little bit which helped. Pretty much all the snow has melted...however, you may find just a little in shaded areas, but that will be about it. NO precipitation yesterday, overnight, or thus far today. This morning as of 9:20 a.m., we have a current temperature of 37 degrees. It is cloudy and overcast at the present time. We had dense fog earlier this morning, but that seems to have cleared out of here thankfully. Don't think we'll see the sun today as we only anticipate high temperatures in the low 40's...so unfortunately it won't be as warm as yesterday. Trails are somewhat muddy, but that is to be expected (due to all the moisture from the snow we have received)...but thankfully NO dust! It should be a nice day though, just on the chilly side. Roads all clear...no problems! Tomorrow we will bring you a comprehensive report on park trail/weather conditions, just in time to kick off the 2010 riding season!

Reminder: RRMT, Inc. will be OPEN three days in observance of the New Year's Holiday Weekend...starting tomorrow, Friday January 1, Saturday January 2, & Sunday January 3! We will have park operation hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. all three days. All Members, Guests, and Visitors Welcome Friday & This Weekend!

TRAIL/WEATHER CONDITIONS

Half Way Thru The Week On This Wednesday...

Well to catch you up to speed on the happenings of yesterday. We did receive snow. It started snowing around 2 p.m. It came down pretty hard until around 8 p.m. or so and then ended. This time the snow was a really wet snow & while the ground was covered (with snow) last night when we turned in for the night, this morning when we awoke, a lot of the snow had already melted overnight due to the fact that it didn't get as cold last night. Thus, no road problems at all today in and around the Red River Valley area as roads are all clear.

NO precipitation overnight or thus far today. This morning as of 9:25 a.m., we have a current temperature of 36 degrees. It was quite foggy this morning, but the fog has cleared for the most part now. Today will be one of the warmer days we have had in a while with anticipated high temperatures in the low 50's. Not sure if we will see the sun today, but one thing's for sure, with the somewhat warmer temperatures, as we thaw out, the moisture from all the snow will make things even more muddy/slushy at the park.

TRAIL/WEATHER CONDITIONS

Tuesday Has Arrived...

NO precipitation yesterday, overnight, or thus far today. This morning as of 10:45 a.m., we have a current temperature of 36 degrees. The skies are cloudy and overcast, as we all just wait to see what the gloomy skies will bring us. Not getting any warmer today...as we have topped out at our "high temperature" already this morning, so it is going to do nothing but get colder today. Park conditions still remain muddy/slushy, but a fair amount of snow still remains on grassy areas since we really haven't warmed up enough for it all to melt yet. We are all just in "wait mode" right now to see if and when the next round of snow is to arrive. The forecast is still predicting 1 to 2 (possibly 3) inches of snow for our area to arrive sometime later this afternoon/tonight, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Much like yesterday, as of this morning, there is a winter advisory in effect for our area as issued by the National Weather Service that we thought we would share with everyone:

Issued by The National Weather Service
Dallas/Fort Worth, TX
3:40 am CST, Tue., Dec. 29, 2009

... WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 9 AM CST WEDNESDAY...

THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW IS NOW IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 9 AM CST WEDNESDAY.

PRECIPITATION WILL DEVELOP ACROSS MOST OF NORTH TEXAS BY THIS AFTERNOON. THE PRECIPITATION MAY START OUT AS RAIN LATE THIS MORNING OR EARLY THIS AFTERNOON WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 30S. A CHANGEOVER TO SNOW IS EXPECTED DURING THE AFTERNOON HOURS AS TEMPERATURES FALL INTO THE LOWER AND MID 30S.

SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS ON THE GRASS WILL RANGE FROM 1 TO 2 INCHES. STEADY SNOW IS EXPECTED DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING HOURS WHICH IS LIKELY TO CREATE SLICK BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES.

ALTHOUGH THE SNOW WILL TAPER OFF AFTER THIS EVENING... STEADY TEMPERATURES NEAR FREEZING ARE FORECAST TO PERSIST OVERNIGHT.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF WINTER PRECIPITATION MAY CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SLIPPERY ROADS AND PLAN ON SOME TRAVEL DELAYS.

More Information
... WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR NORTH TEXAS THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT IN AREAS NORTH OF A LINE FROM LAMPASAS TO HILLSBORO TO SULPHUR SPRINGS...

PRECIPITATION WILL SPREAD INTO NORTH TEXAS THIS MORNING WITH WIDESPREAD PRECIPITATION EXPECTED BY THIS AFTERNOON. PRECIPITATION WILL START AS RAIN BEFORE CHANGING TO SNOW ACROSS THE ADVISORY AREA. SNOWFALL WILL ACCUMULATE BETWEEN 1 AND 2 INCHES ON THE GRASS ACROSS MOST OF THE ADVISORY AREA. PRIMARY TRAVEL IMPACTS WILL BE CONFINED TO SLICK BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH TONIGHT.

****** As always, RRMT, Inc. will keep you posted on current park conditions as we know more. As of currently, all roads are clear in and around our area.

TRAIL/WEATHER CONDITIONS

Welcome To Your Monday...

Hi Everyone...after a crazy Christmas weekend (weather-wise...see Christmas Eve & Christmas Day blogs for more info.), we are back to blogging & have a lot to talk about this morning. We hope everyone had a great Christmas. But now it is time to start thinking about your upcoming New Year's Holiday Weekend.

As of 9:25 a.m., we have a current temperature of 29 degrees. We have bright sunny skies as we anticipate temperatures only in the low 40's for highs today. We have received no further precipitation (in the form of rain, sleet, or snow) since Christmas Eve (12/24) Night. A lot of the snow at the park has melted which has created muddy & slushy park riding conditions. However, some snow still remains in grassy areas. No problem with driving conditions in and around the Red River Valley area. The forecast is predicting additional snowfall for our area...1 to 3 inches anticipated with accumulations likely. Not sure if this snow is due to arrive late tonight or sometime tomorrow early morning...we'll have to keep you posted. All we know is that right now skies are clear.

As of this morning, there is a special winter weather alert for our area as issued by the National Weather Service that we thought we would share with everyone:

Issued by The National Weather Service
Dallas/Fort Worth, TX
3:51 am CST, Mon., Dec. 28, 2009

... WINTER WEATHER TO RETURN TO PARTS OF NORTH TEXAS TUESDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHT...

A COLD AIRMASS WILL REMAIN ACROSS NORTH AND CENTRAL TEXAS FOR MUCH OF THE WEEK. A STORM SYSTEM WILL MOVE ACROSS TEXAS ON TUESDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHT AND BRING WIDESPREAD PRECIPITATION TO THE AREA. TEMPERATURES WILL BE COLD ENOUGH FOR ACCUMULATING SNOWS ACROSS PARTS OF NORTH TEXAS... WHICH COULD LEAD TO TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES BY LATE TUESDAY MORNING OR EARLY TUESDAY AFTERNOON.

THE BEST CHANCE FOR ACCUMULATING SNOW WILL BE IN AREAS ALONG AND NORTH OF A LINE FROM LAMPASAS... TO WACO... TO CANTON. SOUTH OF THIS LINE PRECIPITATION WILL FALL AS RAIN OR POSSIBLY A MIX OF RAIN AND SNOW.

IN AREAS THAT ARE EXPECTED TO RECEIVE ACCUMULATING SNOW... AMOUNTS WILL AVERAGE ABOUT 1 INCH. ISOLATED SNOWFALL TOTALS UP TO 3 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE IN AREAS WEST OF INTERSTATE 35.

RESIDENTS AND TRAVELERS ACROSS NORTH AND CENTRAL TEXAS SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS ON TUESDAY.

THE SNOW CHANCES WILL END FROM WEST TO EAST TUESDAY NIGHT OR WEDNESDAY MORNING. TEMPERATURES WILL RISE ABOVE FREEZING IN ALL AREAS OF NORTH TEXAS BY LATE WEDNESDAY MORNING.

****** As always, RRMT, Inc. will keep you posted on current park conditions as we know more.

TRAIL/WEATHER CONDITIONS

Merry Christmas From Bulcher, Texas...
Your Holiday Weekend Snow Destination!

OPEN SATURDAY, DECEMBER 26
First and foremost, after riding at the park today, we have decided that despite the wintry weather, RRMT, Inc. will be OPEN this weekend...for sure tomorrow (Saturday) & tentatively Sunday. However, tomorrow, Saturday, December 26, we will have a delayed opening...as we will OPEN at 9:30 a.m. and NOT at our usual 8 a.m. This is necessary due to current conditions at the park. While it is highly likely that we will be open on Sunday as well, we may indeed have a delayed opening time as well....but news regarding Sunday will come sometime tomorrow.

Current snow conditions at the park are unbelievable. You actually have to see it to believe it. We will be sharing pictures from the park as well as pictures from the drive out on the roads to the park, as we realize that pictures are worth a 1,000 words. These pictures will help give you a feel for current park conditions as well as road conditions out to Bulcher.

If you ever dreamed of taking an off-road snow trip...there is no need to go to New Mexico, Colorado, or even Sibera :-) We have snow & lots of it for you to enjoy this weekend!

Some tips though based on what we observed today about current park conditions in order to prep you for this weekend:

* We have received 7-8 inches of snow...at the minimum. There are places were there are drifts that are much, much deeper. Use extreme caution and stay on all trails. If you get off the trails, you run the risk of sinking into deep drifts.

* A shovel will be your best friend this weekend, so bring one along.

* If you have a snowmobile, not kidding...we do welcome them this weekend only, due to snow conditions. We do not recommend dirtbikes this weekend. 4 wheel drive recreational vehicles...ATVs, Razors, Mules, etc. are suggested. If you don't have 4 wheel drive off-road recreational vehicle, you will have a hard time getting around. (But don't kid yourself...even 4 wheel drives get stuck!) As usual, no jeeps or dune buggies permitted.

* Today (Christmas Day) we didn't receive any further precipitation. All the snow that we have currently was received yesterday on Christmas Eve. No further precipation is anticiapted over the weekend. We have all trails open, as nothing is closed off, but by the nature of current conditions, some areas may not be accesssable. Use extreme caution & common sense. If it looks deep, do not drive thru it. Please note: RRMT, Inc. is under no obligation to tow or pull you out!

* All ponds, creeks, and the Red River is frozen. Do not drive over large bodies of frozen water!

* We barely got above freezing today, so there wasn't a lot of melting. However, we can tell you that based on the amount of snowfall...when it does start to melt (if it happens to be this weekend), conditions will get slushy!

RV rentals still available if you are planning your snowy Christmas trip to Bulcher...Call us or just show up...we welcome walk-ups.

THIS WEEKEND - MEMBER RV RENTALS

Do you have your RV Rental for this weekend? RRMT, Inc. offers Member RV Site Rentals on a daily basis. Reservations are recommended if you desire a particular RV Site. Otherwise, all walk-up RV Site rentals are welcome as well. Please note that in addition to these rental sites, as usual, RRMT, Inc. also offers free other campsites that are always available via first come-first serve for your convenience.

TRAIL/WEATHER CONDITIONS

Merry Christmas...

This will be a preliminary report this morning...to let you know what we know at this point.

Yesterday, to say that we received some snow would be an understatement...it came down. We haven't gone out and measured it this morning but 8 inches would be a really good estimate...so our earlier prediction yesterday of 2-5 inches got blown out of the water. But we'll try to confirm the exact amount later on today. Here is what we do know...

Yesterday was a treacherous driving day...just ask us.

* This is Highway 82 between Muenster & Saint Jo, Texas!

* The sides of the roadway of Highway 82.

* One other crazy person on the roadway in front of us!

* This is me taking a picture from my vehicle of the people that couldn't make it up this hill on Highway 82, right outside of Saint Jo. And honestly, my vehicle had stalled out on the ice, but luckily I got it back going again.

We attempted to get to Saint Jo yesterday, which for those non-local people...it is located just 10 miles...yes, only 10 miles from the park. Well we had been in Gainesville, so we were on Hwy 82...well let's just say you couldn't even hardly see Hwy 82...conditions yesterday were unbelievable...we literally had whiteout, blizzard conditions. You can see some of the pictures below. But the wind was gusting and it was so strong it could push a car off the road. Topped with the heavy snow coming down and the ice on the roads that was freezing, it was a nightmare. Well we did make it to Saint Jo around 5 pm last night. After staying for a couple hours visiting with family, we attempted to leave Saint Jo around 9:30 p.m....curious what time we got home? 4:30 a.m. ---- yes, to only drive 10 miles. We ended up in a snow bank even with 4 wheel drive. (Yes, at one point I had to pinch myself to be sure I wasn't dreaming that I was in one of those crazy holiday movies where the people get caught in a snowstorm :-) It was crazy...had to call family to come pick us up, get a tractor, drive it all the way up the Bulcher Bluff to right outside of town to pull ourselves out. I guess though we were some of the lucky ones. Tow services were everywhere last night, handling jack-knifed eight wheelers, etc. Many cars along the roadway had been abandoned and we even witnessed one man getting out starting to walk.

Again, I have not witnessed snow like this in our part of the area ever....so just a phenomenal sight to see, especially on Christmas Eve Night/Early Christmas Day Morning!

So with all that said...let's move on to today..

We have a lot of beautiful snow. I am going to attempt to warm up the bikes and yes, snow sleds and venture out today. My plan is to take some pictures and report back to you this evening to get you prepped for this weekend. At this time, we are planning to be open this weekend, even with snow. But our official decision will come later this evening.

Here is what I can tell you right now...extreme caution should be used on all roadways in and around the Red River Valley. We have a current temperature of 20 degrees. The sun is out already this morning, but not expecting much of a warm-up...as they are saying 31 will be the high temperature in our area today. So not looking good for getting above freezing today. We have had no precipitation fall thus far today.

Holiday Weekday Riding...

If you are a member & are planning on getting some holiday riding in today (Christmas Day), you must contact our park office for an appointment. Only phone calls at 940-995-2903 will be accepted. Emails will not be answered today. We are happy to accommodate your holiday vacation plans.

WINTRY WEATHER PARK OPERATION HOURS

For curious minds...because we start to get these questions as winter approaches..."Are you open when it snows & Can I come ride?" If it is a weekday (Monday-Friday)...even with snow, members may make appointments to come to the park as usual. If it is a weekend (Saturday & Sunday), and it snows...our park will more than likely be open, but we encourage you to check our website or call our park office to verify we are indeed open. If we are open on a weekend (in the case of snow), then we welcome members, guests, and visitors to come ride (as usual on a weekend). .

* In the case of extremely treacherous weather...ice, sleet, snow, etc...RRMT, Inc. always reserves the right for the safety of its customers to shut down the park. If this ever occurs, it will be posted on our website as well as on our park office answering machine. *

* As of right now, we are open to take appointments for your winter snowy ride today, but we're about to go out and check things out...to let you know more as soon as possible.

More will come tonight as I know more...so look for another blog from us later this evening/tonight.

We Wish You A Merry Christmas!

Enjoy Your White Christmas...

TRAIL/WEATHER CONDITIONS

Happy Christmas Eve...

Only in Texas is it possible to have such crazy weather. I think it is this crazy weather that Texans actually love (at least I do)...the weather changes so rapidly that you never have to get tired of the same 'ole thing & it seems like we get a little bit of everything here. Yesterday was a really nice day. At one point yesterday, I remember glancing at the temperature reading in my vehicle only to see "74"! Really...74 I thought...so hard to believe for December 23. But then today...reality check...Now less than 24 hours later, we have totally different weather. Yesterday we were all dreaming of spring & a sunny, warm destination...today, it's the arctic as we think of the mountains and a winter getaway. Overnight...rain, rain, and more rain. Actually we had some pretty big thunderstorms...it actually knocked our power out, but luckily it has been restored now. At this point, we haven't made it out to the rain gauge, but just from looking out, we can tell that we received a significant rainfall amount...because there are puddles standing everywhere & it is muddy. We will try to look in the rain gauge and get an actual reading for you as soon as possible. On top of the fact that it rained overnight, it actually is misting rain right now as well. It is a cold, extremely WINDY, gloomy, winter Christmas Eve...with a current temperature of 35 degrees at 9:20 a.m. According to the forecast, we have actually already reached our "high temperature" of the day with our current temperature of 35, so brace yourself...because it is going to be very very cold today with no warm-up! There is 100% chance of precipitation today, with accumulations of snow predicted for our area ranging from 2-5 inches. But at the current time, we have received NO snow. Everything falling right now is still in the form of rain. We will keep you posted. For those of you that wanted a White Christmas, looks as though you'll get your wish this year!

TRAIL/WEATHER CONDITIONS

Happy Friday Evening...

Our apologizes for this blog coming to you so late this evening. If you only knew the day we had...the Griswolds have nothing on us! A trip to the dentist for a family dental emergency coupled with a Christmas Party for 3 & 4 year olds signing "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" at the top of their lungs. Oh the joys!
It's must be the holidays. Thank goodness it's Friday! :-)

NO rain yesterday or overnight. This evening as of 5:30 p.m., we have a current temperature of 53 degrees. Those at the park today enjoyed sunny skies & exceptional temperatures. It was a perfect day to be outdoors. We have received NO rain thus far today. If you haven't checked out the weekend forecast, you've been deprived....sunny skies & great temperatures are in store for all of us both tomorrow & Sunday.

Kicking off the weekend is way over due....here's your usual Friday comprehensive report:

RRMT, INC.'S RAIN GAUGE RECAP
Just as a recap, leading up to today, here are this week's rainfall totals that we pulled off each of our daily blogs from the week:

* Monday--NO RAIN
overnight-- NO RAIN
* Tuesday-- NO RAIN
overnight-- NO RAIN
* Wednesday -- NO RAIN
overnight--NO RAIN
* Thursday-- NO RAIN
overnight—NO RAIN
* Friday (TODAY)-- NO RAIN as of 5:30 p.m.

Another dry week here in the Red River Valley.

TRAILS
All of our trails are OPEN....this includes all trails on both the North & East sides. Bill's Woods & the New Property are both open as well...ENJOY!

Mountain Creek is at its normal level, except down toward the mouth of the Red River where we advise riders to use caution. No problem crossing Mountain Creek at this time. Due to dry conditions, expect dust! Reminder: Just because a trail was there on your last ride...don't expect it to be there on your next ride. Water (from the April rains) has really changed a lot of our trail system, so we advise everyone to use extreme caution even when riding on trails that you were once familiar.

Riders to RRMT, Inc. will now find that RRMT, Inc. has over 30 new point of interest signs installed out on the trails. These are a great new addition to the park & we are very proud of them! These signs will help you catch the iRide Bulcher, Texas fever as you continue to learn about the various unique parts of the RRMT, Inc. Facility!

RED RIVER
The Red River remains at its normal low level. There still remains some lurking murky water/quicksand being pushed up into the mouth of Mountain Creek from the river, so watch out for it...getting stuck is possible.

CREEK
While riding in Mountain Creek is possible and crossing the creek is also possible...please use caution when in the creek, especially further down the creek toward the river. It is very possible to sink your recreational vehicle in the creek due to quicksand if not careful. Please note that if you get stuck, RRMT, Inc. is under no obligation to tow you out!

TRAIL/WEATHER CONDITIONS

Happy Friday Afternoon...

NO rain yesterday or overnight. This afternoon as of 1 p.m., we have a current temperature of 40 degrees. It is cloudy and overcast this morning as we have pretty much already topped out at our "high" temperature of the day, believe it or not. Another very chilly day again. We have received NO rain thus far today. While the forecast for tomorrow (Saturday) is much like today, Sunday promises sunny skies & much warmer (mid to upper 60's) temperatures. The weekend is upon us, so get out & enjoy it. Here's a recap of the week to help you plan your weekend!

RRMT, INC.'S RAIN GAUGE RECAP
Just as a recap, leading up to today, here are this week's rainfall totals that we pulled off each of our daily blogs from the week:

* Monday--NO RAIN
overnight-- NO RAIN
* Tuesday-- NO RAIN
overnight-- NO RAIN
* Wednesday -- NO RAIN
overnight--NO RAIN
* Thursday-- NO RAIN
overnight—NO RAIN
* Friday (TODAY)-- NO RAIN as of 1 p.m.

A cold, but dry week!

Due to the cold temperatures we have had this week, expect puddles in low lying/shaded areas on some of the trails.
